Disc Golf: Round Three

It was the worst of games; it was the best of games. Not to keep you in suspense or anything, but brace yourself for disappointment and awe:

Keep in mind all holes are a Par 3:

Hole 1: +3 Hole 2: +2 Hole 3: +3 Hole 4: +3 Hole 5: +2 Hole 6: +2 Hole 7: 0 Hole 8: +2 Hole 9: +1 Hole 10: +2 Hole 11: +3 Hole 12: +1 Hole 13: +4 Hole 14: +3 Hole 15: +2 Hole 16: +1 Hole 17: +1 Hole 18: +4

Total Over Par: 39

The reason i say awe is that i somehow managed to play what felt like the worst game while still improving my overall score. As you can see, the first nine holes rated quite high on the crap-o-meter. Frankly, the only reason there was any improvement at all is because i didn't make the same stupeed-o mistake of playing stout on Hole 15.

Comparison to Round Two:

Hole 1: +1 Hole 2: -1 Hole 3: +1 Hole 4: +2 Hole 5: +1 Hole 6: -2 Hole 7: 0 Hole 8: +1 Hole 9: -1 Hole 10: +2 Hole 11: 0 Hole 12: 0 Hole 13: 0 Hole 14: +1 Hole 15: -5 Hole 16: 0 Hole 17: -1 Hole 18: -1

Improved Holes (yay!): 6
No Improvement (oh well): 5
What happened?! Holes (friggin' A!): 7

It threatened to rain, it was humid, and yes, i was sweating like a glass of ice tea on a windowsill in late July. My mind was somewhere else. Every throw went high and curved waaaaaaay right. Expletives bounced off the trees as much as the discs. i cooked a Tortino's party pizza for late lunch/early dinner before going to play, and managed to burn my finger getting the darn thing out of the oven. While playing, the blister got bigger and bigger, and became a severe annoyance. Some buzzing bug was whizzing around my head for, no lie, three holes. i was whipping my ponytail around in an effort to be rid of it, then it occurred to me i probably looked like Mr Ed. Mr Ed throwing a plastic round thing at the trees and cursing. Of course. So naturally, i started swatting with my hands instead. In an effort to look less stupid, you understand. yeah, i know.

The thing is, i wanted to stop playing. i wasn't having fun with it today. i was sucking. i was angry and tired and sweaty and uncomfortable and i just wanted to go home. But i didn't. For those of you who know me, you should be gaping right about now. i'm not one to continue what i don't enjoy. especially with games. but although i, as always, kept whacking! the trees with almost every throw, it was actually in my favor that they hit the tree trunks. the disc was getting stopped before becoming lost in the woods, or rolling down the hills, or landing in the creeks. It was eerie. Although i was playing like crap, i was having the best luck i've ever had with disc golf! My fairy godmother shows up for THIS?! Is she the sister of that fat guy in the commercial?

So i kept playing. And i can't explain it. i didn't feel great about it, just puzzled. Kind of the way i'm puzzled that i could play that badly and still be better than i was in my previous games. Go figure.

Be the disc.

Disc Golf: Round Two

Well, second time around finally happened. Here goes nothing...

Keep in mind all holes are a Par 3:

Hole 1: +2 Hole 2: +3 Hole 3: +2 Hole 4: +1 Hole 5: +1 Hole 6: +4 Hole 7: 0 Hole 8: +1 Hole 9: +2 Hole 10: 0 Hole 11: +3 Hole 12: +1 Hole 13: +4 Hole 14: +2 Hole 15: +7* Hole 16: +1 Hole 17: +2 Hole 18: +5

Total Over Par: 41

I was doing okay until dumdum-me went to the wrong tee on Hole 15 and played stout. D'oh! That sucked sweaty donkey dong. And Hole 18 was also stout, but it was last time too, so i'm not even trying to make excuses for that idiocy. Oh, and word to the wise: 4:15pm is not the best time to go disc golfing in July on a sunny day: H-O-T!!

Comparison to Round One:

Hole 1: 0 Hole 2: +2 Hole 3: -1 Hole 4: -2 Hole 5: -2 Hole 6: 0 Hole 7: -1 Hole 8: 0 Hole 9: -1 Hole 10: -4 Hole 11: +1 Hole 12: 0 Hole 13: +2 Hole 14: -1 Hole 15: +3 Hole 16: -1 Hole 17: 0 Hole 18: +1

Improved Holes (yay!): 8
No Improvement (oh well): 5
What happened?! Holes (friggin' A!): 5

On the upside, i am more than tickled that i actually got the disc in on par, not just once, but twice! Whoopeee! I also met some more random people on the course, one dude had his toe all bandaged up with t.p. and admitted wearing flippy floppies (my wording, not his) to play at Reedy Creek was not the best idea he ever had. Cute muddy dogs were abundant again, but something was up with the trees.

Every single hole, at least once, my disc went SMACK CRACK straight into some freaky jumping-in-my-way-at-the-last-second tree! It was really unbelievable! But anywho, i did improve, alot if you were to disregard Hole 15 (but i won't, i'm being honest, and that's just how d.g. is sometimes...i suppose >:p ). I played with the leopard for the first throw all holes but one, but only used the putter three times. The rest of the time i played with Mike, my newly named white Shark. We swim well together on the woody course.

Be the disc.

Disc Golf: Round One

Alrighty, this series is motivation for me to improve my disc golf game. Every time i go to Reedy Creek Park i will attempt to keep track of and better my score. So here goes Round One:

Keep in mind all holes are a Par 3:

Hole 1: +2 Hole 2: +1 Hole 3: +3 Hole 4: +3 Hole 5: +3 Hole 6: +4 Hole 7: +1 Hole 8: +1 Hole 9: +3 Hole 10: +4 Hole 11: +2 Hole 12: +1 Hole 13: +2 Hole 14: +1 Hole 15: +4 Hole 16: +2 Hole 17: +2 Hole 18: +4

Total Over Par: 43

In other words, i suck. Or let's be postive: i have much room for improvement. i just bought three super cheap discs to muck about with, a bright green lightweight putter that i suck monkey balls with, a dull blue leopard that one out of five throws gives me the hint of distance it promised (given the trees stop jumping in the way), and a white shark that i really like. i only throw with sharp right curviture, but maybe one day i'll get the things to bend right.

On the upside, i went after work all by myself, and it was very nice to walk about getting eaten by mosquitos and enjoy the scenery and my suckage in peace. At around Hole 14, i got to join a group of real disc golfers and they pleasantly pretended not to notice how badly i sucked at the game, even sharing one of their ice cold beverages that was quite welcome what with all the heat in the dead of summer. wahoo! there was even a dirty slobbering dog to pat, all around an ideal park visit.

Now that the scoring bar is set low, let's all keep our fingers crossed it will be raised over the rest of the season.

Be the disc.
